SLC Presidents Speech

Our school's theme this year was "Do the Right Thing".  This could mean many different things such as helping someone who has dropped their binder in the hallway or having the initiative to step up and help your teacher.  Doing the right thing can go as far as just smiling at someone and saying "how are you today?".  That one simple smile and comment can change their whole day and right then you know you've done the right thing.  During the summer keep on doing the right thing and be God's light in the darkness for others who need it as well as yourselves.
Throughout this school year the students and staff of Rivier Academy had done a lot of fundraising through non-uniforms, freshie auction and the parable of talents we did at the beginning of the year where we were given a certain amount of money and were asked to double it using our talents.
My time as your SLC president has come to an end and I will be passing my position over to Kianne Henry.  This year has been awesome and I will miss Rivier.  As I move on to university and my future, I will always remember what I had learned through my time here on the SLC and just being part of the student body that makes up our Rivier family.
To the graduating class of 2013, this is the time to make mistakes and to learn from them.  It is time to take the wrong decisions and keep correcting them till you're finally right.  Never forget what you have learned here at Rivier and take those lessons into your future.  I know each and everyone of you will go far in life.  To the returning students coming back to Rivier in the fall, I encourage you to never give up, keep your head held high and be proud of who you are and what you'll become.
Finally, to the teachers and staff at Rivier, thank you so much for all you have done.  Thank you for putting up with my countless questions and outbursts.  Thank you for believing in every single student to do the best and push us to be our best.
Now that this school year is almost over and summer holidays are on their way, I want to wish you a great summer, filled with fun and memories.  Take the time to relax with friends and family.  As I conclude, I just want to thank you again for the opportunity to have been your presidentfor the 2012-2013 year.

Tuesday, June 4: Grade 9's leave for Camp Kadesh at 8:45am.
Wednesday, June 5: Grade 9's return from Camp Kadesh and arrive at the school by 3:15pm.
Wednesday, June 5: Final (Band/Choral/Orchestra) Concert at 7:00pm.  Everyone is welcome to come on out and enjoy a wonderful evening of musical entertainment.

Monday, June 10: Grade 7 and 8 students who are signed up to run 100m, 150m and 1500m will be bussed to the Harry Jerome Track Field at 11:15am for their events.  Students are to arrange for their ride home from the field.
Tuesday, June 11: All Grade 7 and 8 students will be at the Harry Jerome Track Field for the entire day.  Grade 10 students will also be at track to work the events.  Students are responsible for transportation to and from the field.

Friday, June 21: All (new and returning) students who are interested in renting an instrument for next school year, must call in on this day to reserve their instrument. Supply is limited and instruments are reserved on a first come first serve basis.
Monday, June 24: Grade 12 Grad Rehearsal at 12:35pm
Tuesday, June 25: Graduation Day. Grade 12's must be at the school by 11am for Cap & Gown pictures.
Thursday, June 27: Report cards will be sent out in the mail. All tuition fee's and any other monies owed to the school must be paid by this date, otherwise your report card will be held at the office until accounts are paid in full.
Friday, June 28: The school will be closed for summer holidays.

Grade 7/8 Track Meet at Harry Jerome Track

On May 27, 2013, the grade 7 and 8 students will spend the day at the track field.  The grade 10   students will also be in attendance as they will be working the events.  Students are responsible for travel to and from the track that day.  The first event begins at 9:00am and the day should be wrapped up by 3:00pm.  We strongly encourage all students to be at the track by 8:30am so that attendance can be taken and any instructions be given to the students.
Each grade 7 and 8 student will receive a list of their events and the time of the event.  Please note the 1500's will not be run on May 27th, but will be run this Thursday, May23, 3:45pm at Holy Cross, weather permitting.
The grade 10 students, as part of their Wellness mark, are to be helpers at this event.  They will help with timing and judging at the finish line, measuring, raking pits or whatever other tasks are needed to make the day run smoothly.  To make this day run without glitches, we need everybody's help.  All students in grade 10 are required to be there.

It is strongly encouraged that no bikes be brought to Harry Jerome Track as they cannot be secured.  Tents are not allowed at the track.

Because the track meet will likely go ahead regardless of the weather, the athletes and workers will need to be prepared for anything and everything.  Please have a good supply of sunscreen, umbrellas or rain gear.  Please tune into the local radio station if in doubt of the event being postponed.

The following teachers will be at the track and field meet all day: Mrs. Ikert, Miss Wilson, Miss Tilford, Mr. Cappelletto, Miss Campbell and Mme Mengell. See one of these staff members if you have any questions.

School Uniform/Warm Weather

With the warm weather upon us, students will not be required to wear their ties, vests, sweatshirts or jackets for remainder of the school year. Please take them home so they do not get lost.

July 27-August 24, 2013

20 high school students from Japan will be in Prince Albert to participate in an 
Intensive English Program from July 27 – August 24, 2013.

These students will be taking classes at Rivier Academy on weekdays.  Evenings and weekends are free to spend with the host families.  Upon completion of this summer program these students will be attending school in high schools across the province during the next school year.

Definition of a family: A family for this hosting experience is defined as two or more related people living in the host home at the time of hosting.

Host families are to provide: three meals a day, transportation to Rivier Academy on class days, (car pooling and other supports will be made available) preferably a private bedroom for the student, willingness to accept and integrate an international student into their daily family life.

Thank you to everyone who came out to help us with the Steak/Lobster fundraising supper on April 6, 2013.  With sincerest of thanks, we so appreciate all your help that night; from selling 50/50 tickets, to helping serve, to cleaning up.  Great job students!  Also, a special thank you to Brianne Barbondy for arranging all the volunteers that evening.
We are already in the planning stages of making this an annual event, with our next date being March 29, 2014.  We would love for students at the Academy to be a part of this event, and look forward to your support next year.

Last Chance For Tickets....

Rivier Foundation is hosting a Steak/Lobster Dinner fundraiser for a new sound system for Rivier Academy Auditorium. 

The dinner is Saturday, April 6, 2013, 6 p.m. at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre.  There will be a Silent Auction and Dance (with live music) to follow. Tickets are $60 each or $450 for a table of 8. Your choice of Steak or Lobster must be in by April 2 as food orders need to be placed.  This is our one major fundraiser for this year and has replaced the cash calendar tickets that have been done for the last number of years.  Your support is very much appreciated.

Sunday, March 3: Rivier Academy "Open House". For anyone who is a little bit curious or has intentions on applying, we welcome one and all to come meet the staff and visit the school.  We will begin in the auditorium at 7:00pm.  We are now accepting applications for girls and boys, grades 7 - 12.

Wednesday, March 6: Driver Ed. (Session 8) begins at 3:30pm at St. Mary High School.
Thursday, March 7: Non-uniform Day ($2).  All monies collected will be going to the Orphanage in the Philippines.
Friday, March 15: Students and Staff will enjoy a day of skiing at Wapiti Valley.  Attendance will be taken at 7:30am and the bus will load at 7:45am.  Return time is estimated between 4:30 and 4:45 pm.

Synopsis: After their father and mother die, four newly-orphaned Appalachian
children decide to live self-sufficiently in the mountains of rural
North-Carolina, rather than have the state realize what happened and then
split them up sending them to foster homes. Mary Call, while not the oldest
of the children, assumes the "parent' role, doing her best to make adult
decisions that are often more than she can handle. This proves a formidable
opponent for landlord Kiser Pease, who is interested in marrying the oldest
daughter Devola.
