School Pictures

Today students will be sent home with their school picture proofs.  Please note that orders must be returned to the school office by Tuesday, September 24th.  Should a student need a retake, there is a parent signature required at the bottom of the order form and that must also be returned to the office.

Driver Education

 We are accepting registrations for sessions 2-6 (October - February).  Students are required to be 15 years of age at the start of the class they are registering for and will also need their birth certificate and hospitalization cards. All sessions will take place at St. Mary High School from 3:30 -5:30pm.  Please return your registration form to Judy a.s.a.p. to avoid any disappointment as classes do fill up.

Band Workshop for Level 1 Students

This workshop will take place on Sunday, September 15 at St. Anne School.  The students will be required to be at St. Anne at 12:45pm and will remain at the school until 4:00pm.  Snacks, clinicians, and music/handouts will be provided for the students.  Students will need to bring their beginner Essential Elements yellow method book, reeds, and any other instrument accessories with them.  There is no cost for attending the workshop.  Taking part in this beginner workshop will allow us to get  a head start on learning our instruments, which will in turn allow us to have a more successful first year in the Rivier Band program.

Uniform Update

For the most part, we now have all uniform pieces available at the office.  The few items that are still on back order include Long Ties, Size Small Vests and Adult X-Small & Medium Zip Front Jackets.
 We are also clearing out the following discontinued items at sale prices:  Saxon (100% Nylon) Black Basketball Shorts ($12), Top Marks (92% Cotton/8%Spandex) Black Biker Shorts ($8) and Top Marks (92% Cotton/8% Spandex) White Tank Tops ($8).  All items are available in various sizes while quantities last. 

Sacramental Preparation

If there are any students interested in taking classes for sacramental preparation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist), they are asked to leave their name and contact information at the office.  Sr. Zelie will contact you to make arrangements.

Orchestra Students....

Mr. Bernier has placed an order for "Strictly Strings" music books. The order has arrived and students are asked to bring in payment of $7 a.s.a.p. to cover the cost of the book.  

Welcome Back!

The first day back to school for all students (Grades 7-12) is Tuesday, September 3/13.  The day begins at 8:50am and students will be dismissed at 3:20pm.  Please remember that this is a "Formal Dress" day.

 As much as possible we are first trying to fill the uniform orders for the new students coming in.  However, there have been some delays with the uniform company and our shipment will not arrive until after the school year begins. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Students will receive 2 agenda's on their first day, one for themselves and the other is the parents copy.  Please note: a parent signature is required on page 18 in the student agenda in order for their son/daughter to use the internet at school.  We would also appreciate having the parent indicate on that same page that they received their copy of the agenda.

Other information being sent on this day will include, forms for picture day, driver ed. sessions and noon hour leave permission slips.  The "noon hour leave" applies to grades 10-12 only, junior students are expected to stay on school property during the lunch hour.

Thank you to those who promptly paid the tuition fees that were due August 15. If fees have not yet been paid, please do so as soon as possible.

Rivier Players Present: Disney's "Sleeping Beauty"

February 6 - 9, 2014
This well loved fairy tale has all the right ingredients, a princess, a prince, good fairies, a bad fairy. It is a charming and entertaining story for all ages.

Synopsis: At the Christening of a King and Queen's long wished for child several fairies are invited to be Godmothers to the infant princess. All present their gifts but as the last fairy is about to present her gift, suddenly Malificent the one fairy who has not been invited angrily storms in and presents her gift. It is a curse, the princess on her sixteenth birthday will prick her finger on a spindle and die. The one fairy who has not yet presented her gift uses it to partially reverse the wicked fairy's curse. The princess will fall into a deep sleep for a hundred years. She can only be awakened by the kiss of a prince.

This wonderful story is presented in typical Disney style with lots of action and many of the fun characters we all know and love.

SLC Presidents Speech

Our school's theme this year was "Do the Right Thing".  This could mean many different things such as helping someone who has dropped their binder in the hallway or having the initiative to step up and help your teacher.  Doing the right thing can go as far as just smiling at someone and saying "how are you today?".  That one simple smile and comment can change their whole day and right then you know you've done the right thing.  During the summer keep on doing the right thing and be God's light in the darkness for others who need it as well as yourselves.
Throughout this school year the students and staff of Rivier Academy had done a lot of fundraising through non-uniforms, freshie auction and the parable of talents we did at the beginning of the year where we were given a certain amount of money and were asked to double it using our talents.
My time as your SLC president has come to an end and I will be passing my position over to Kianne Henry.  This year has been awesome and I will miss Rivier.  As I move on to university and my future, I will always remember what I had learned through my time here on the SLC and just being part of the student body that makes up our Rivier family.
To the graduating class of 2013, this is the time to make mistakes and to learn from them.  It is time to take the wrong decisions and keep correcting them till you're finally right.  Never forget what you have learned here at Rivier and take those lessons into your future.  I know each and everyone of you will go far in life.  To the returning students coming back to Rivier in the fall, I encourage you to never give up, keep your head held high and be proud of who you are and what you'll become.
Finally, to the teachers and staff at Rivier, thank you so much for all you have done.  Thank you for putting up with my countless questions and outbursts.  Thank you for believing in every single student to do the best and push us to be our best.
Now that this school year is almost over and summer holidays are on their way, I want to wish you a great summer, filled with fun and memories.  Take the time to relax with friends and family.  As I conclude, I just want to thank you again for the opportunity to have been your presidentfor the 2012-2013 year.

Thursday, June 27: Report cards will be sent out in the mail. All tuition fee's and any other monies owed to the school must be paid by this date, otherwise your report card will be held at the office until accounts are paid in full.
Friday, June 28: The school will be closed for summer holidays.

Grade 7/8 Track Meet at Harry Jerome Track

On May 27, 2013, the grade 7 and 8 students will spend the day at the track field.  The grade 10   students will also be in attendance as they will be working the events.  Students are responsible for travel to and from the track that day.  The first event begins at 9:00am and the day should be wrapped up by 3:00pm.  We strongly encourage all students to be at the track by 8:30am so that attendance can be taken and any instructions be given to the students.
Each grade 7 and 8 student will receive a list of their events and the time of the event.  Please note the 1500's will not be run on May 27th, but will be run this Thursday, May23, 3:45pm at Holy Cross, weather permitting.
The grade 10 students, as part of their Wellness mark, are to be helpers at this event.  They will help with timing and judging at the finish line, measuring, raking pits or whatever other tasks are needed to make the day run smoothly.  To make this day run without glitches, we need everybody's help.  All students in grade 10 are required to be there.

It is strongly encouraged that no bikes be brought to Harry Jerome Track as they cannot be secured.  Tents are not allowed at the track.

Because the track meet will likely go ahead regardless of the weather, the athletes and workers will need to be prepared for anything and everything.  Please have a good supply of sunscreen, umbrellas or rain gear.  Please tune into the local radio station if in doubt of the event being postponed.

The following teachers will be at the track and field meet all day: Mrs. Ikert, Miss Wilson, Miss Tilford, Mr. Cappelletto, Miss Campbell and Mme Mengell. See one of these staff members if you have any questions.

School Uniform/Warm Weather

With the warm weather upon us, students will not be required to wear their ties, vests, sweatshirts or jackets for remainder of the school year. Please take them home so they do not get lost.

July 27-August 24, 2013

20 high school students from Japan will be in Prince Albert to participate in an 
Intensive English Program from July 27 – August 24, 2013.

These students will be taking classes at Rivier Academy on weekdays.  Evenings and weekends are free to spend with the host families.  Upon completion of this summer program these students will be attending school in high schools across the province during the next school year.

Definition of a family: A family for this hosting experience is defined as two or more related people living in the host home at the time of hosting.

Host families are to provide: three meals a day, transportation to Rivier Academy on class days, (car pooling and other supports will be made available) preferably a private bedroom for the student, willingness to accept and integrate an international student into their daily family life.
